The last weekend of January 2025 saw a massive influx of tourists to the beaches of Cox’s Bazar. Popular spots like Kolatoli, Sugandha, and Laboni points were bustling with activity on Saturday as visitors took advantage of the weekly holiday. Beyond these central hubs, the entire 80-kilometer stretch of the Marine Drive from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar witnessed a lively crowd, especially in Himchari, Inani, and Patharghata beaches.
A Rush to Saint Martin’s Island
Meanwhile, Saint Martin’s Island, the country’s only coral-rich island, also drew significant visitors. With ferry services scheduled to cease on January 31 due to government restrictions, many are making last-minute trips to experience the island’s unique charm. Residents and business owners are urging authorities to extend ferry operations and allow overnight stays until February.
Winter’s Final Charm
Tourists cited several reasons for their visits, including the desire to enjoy the serene beauty of the sea during the final days of winter. Many families also make the most of the holiday season before schools and colleges reopen.
Moheshkhali Sees Increased Footfall
The island upazila of Moheshkhali has also become a favored destination, with tourists flocking to attractions like the Adinath Temple, the Shooting Bridge, and the local Buddhist temples.
The influx of visitors has created a festive atmosphere across Cox’s Bazar and surrounding areas, injecting a fresh wave of energy into the winter tourism season. Local businesses are optimistic that this surge will significantly boost the region’s economy.
