Train services on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for five days due to flooding triggered by heavy rainfall and hill runoff.
The Ministry of Railways said in a statement that regular train operations on the route had resumed on Sunday.
According to the ministry, floodwaters caused by days of torrential rain inundated sections of the railway track between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations, rendering the line unsafe for train operations. As a result, all train services on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram route had been suspended since July 7.
With flood conditions improving, railway authorities repaired the damaged sections of the track and declared the line safe for operation.
The Parjatak Express, operating on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka route, left Chattogram for Cox’s Bazar at 1:30 pm on July 12, marking the resumption of train services on the route.
The ministry said all other trains operating on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar, Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka routes would now run according to their regular schedules.
Confirming the development, Cox’s Bazar Iconic Railway Station master Md Zainal Abedin said train services resumed after railway engineers inspected the track and confirmed it was safe for operation following improved weather conditions.
At present, the Cox’s Bazar Express and Parjatak Express operate on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route, while the Probal Express and Saikat Express run between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
