The week-long Sri Sri Shiva Chaturdashi Puja and Adinath Fair began today, centered on the historic Adinath Temple in the island upazila of Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

Devotees and visitors have already started arriving at the Mainak Hill area, where the temple is located, as the seven-day religious and cultural event gets underway.

Held annually in a solemn yet festive atmosphere, the Adinath Fair boasts a heritage spanning more than two centuries.

On the occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi, thousands of worshippers and tourists from across Bangladesh and neighboring countries such as India, Nepal, and Bhutan participate in the event.

Observed on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Falgun, the occasion draws followers of the Hindu faith who seek blessings from Lord Shiva through prayer and seeing.

The fairgrounds have already set up stalls selling various goods, and the Mainak Hill area has come alive with the footsteps of devotees and visitors.

Organizers have arranged accommodation and other necessary facilities for attendees.

Ratan Kanti De, general secretary of the Sri Sri Shiva Chaturdashi Puja and Fair Committee, said preparations have been taken to ensure the event is conducted in an orderly manner, as in previous years.

Officer-in-Charge of Moheshkhali Police Station, Md. Mujibur Rahman said special police teams will be deployed to maintain law and order during the fair, and necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of devotees and visitors.

Organizers expressed hope that the week-long celebration will not only uphold its religious and cultural significance but also highlight the rich heritage and traditions of Moheshkhali.
