A workshop titled “The Role of the Tourism Industry in Expanding Tourism and Creating Alternative Employment” was held in Cox’s Bazar, organized by the ISEC project of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Local stakeholders attended the workshop today in a hotel conference room. Mohammad Salahuddin, the Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, was the chief guest.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the commitment to fostering the local tourism industry through integrated government and private sector initiatives, emphasizing community involvement. He also noted plans for diversified activities to advance tourism in ways that safeguard the environmentally critical areas (ECA).
Additional District Commissioner Rubaiya Afroze, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Morshed Chowdhury, Head of ILO Cox’s Bazar Office Ruchika Vell, and Managing Director of Enroute International Md. Abu Daud Khan was among those who spoke at the event.
Officials from various government and non-government departments, tourist police, business leaders, and tourism-related stakeholders attended the workshop.
Speakers discussed strategies to identify new tourism spots and develop skills for creating sustainable employment opportunities in the sector.
