Police rescued 37 Rohingyas, including 21 children, who were illegally entering Bangladesh from Myanmar via sea at Teknaf’s Baharchhara coast in Cox’s Bazar.
The rescue occurred around at Monday night at the Jahazpura area of Baharchhara Union, Teknaf.
Among the rescued Rohingyas, there were 21 children, 12 women, and 4 men, all reportedly from various villages in Maungdaw, Myanmar.
Confirming the rescue, Teknaf Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Giyas Uddin said, “With the help of locals, 37 Rohingyas, including 21 children, were rescued while trying to illegally enter Bangladesh from Myanmar by boat, facilitated by human traffickers. They have been handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).”
One of the rescued Rohingyas, Rezia Begum, said, “The Arakan Army burned down our homes. They ordered us to build camps. Our village has been bombed, killing many people. To save our lives, we fled to the Naf River and took a boat to enter Bangladesh. The traffickers charged us 15,000 taka per person.”
