Bangladesh’s Women’s team finally confirmed their place in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held later this year in India, after the West Indies failed to enhance their net run rate against Thailand.
The Tigresses’ World Cup hope hung inthe balance following their seven-wicket defeat to Pakistan.
They had to rely on the outcome of the match between West Indies and Thailand, which was held after their match against Pakistan.
Even though Bangladesh has the superior net run rate, West Indies batters’ ability to hit boundaries will make them doubt their place in the World Cup.
The West Indies almost reached the World Cup. After bowling out Thailand for 166 in 46.1 overs, the Caribbean Women were given two equations to reach the World Cup: either they would have to score 167 in 10 overs or 172 in 11 overs if the score remained level after 10 overs.
But the West Indies failed to meet both requirements.
They eventually won by reaching 168-4 in 10.5 overs with Stafaine Taylor hitting six to confirm the victory.
Skipper Hayley Matthews led the charge with 29 balls-70, smashing 11 fours and two sixes. Chinelle Henry hammered 48 off 17.
Thanks to the duo, West Indies almost made the impossible possible, but eventually, luck did not favour them.
Bangladesh and the West Indies both finished with three victories. Bangladesh’s run rate was 0.639, compared to the West Indies’ 0.626. Pakistan won all five matches earlier to confirm their place in the World Cup.
