The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised four maritime ports in the country to hoist Signal No. 3 as a precautionary measure due to a developing low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
On Wednesday, May 28, Assistant Meteorologist Md. Abdul Hannan from the Cox’s Bazar Weather Office confirmed this update.
According to the meteorological office, a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining regions.
As a result of this low-pressure system, rainfall has been occurring in Cox’s Bazar since yesterday and continues as forecasted this morning.
In an official weather bulletin, the Meteorological Department warned that the low-pressure system is likely to intensify. This could cause strong or gale-force winds over the northern Bay of Bengal, coastal areas of Bangladesh, and its maritime ports.
Consequently, the department has instructed the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to display Signal No. 3 local warnings to alert the public and maritime activities.
