Abul Manjur, widely known as the “Green Revolutionary” of Cox’s Bazar, has been honored with the prestigious “Shobuj Sathi Award” for his remarkable contributions to environmental protection. His innovative initiatives and selfless dedication have set a new milestone in environmental conservation.
The award was presented at a ceremony held on Thursday (29 May) at 11 AM in the auditorium of Baitush Sharaf Jabbariya Academy School and College, Cox’s Bazar. The event was jointly organized by the environmental organizations “Dhoritri Rokkha-e Amra (Dhara)” and “Waterkeepers Bangladesh.”
A resident of Baharchhara in Cox’s Bazar town, Manjur works as a Deputy Administrative Officer at the District Commissioner’s office. However, he is best known for his pioneering rooftop garden project, in which he transformed an abandoned office rooftop into a vibrant garden by cultivating dragon fruit and other fruits using tubs, drums, and baskets. This initiative has not only promoted environmental conservation but also added a new dimension to the agricultural landscape, earning him accolades from various organizations.
The event’s chief guest was Sharif Jamin, an international environmentalist and General Manager of “Dhara.” Also present were Fazlul Kader Chowdhury, President of “Dhara” Cox’s Bazar branch, a freedom fighter and journalist, along with educationist Sirajul Islam, members of the organization, school students, and journalists.
