The cattle markets of Cox’s Bazar are gradually coming alive ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. Over the past few days, trucks loaded with cattle, buffaloes, goats, and sheep have been arriving from far and wide to meet the growing demand for sacrificial animals. Buyers from various districts have already started flocking to the markets to purchase animals for the upcoming Eid festivities.
Meanwhile, preparations for Eid-ul-Adha have begun in earnest across Cox’s Bazar, marked by a wave of enthusiasm and anticipation. Livestock trade is picking up at all 94 designated markets in the district. In a welcome development, the Cox’s Bazar Department of Livestock has reassured residents that there will be no shortage of sacrificial animals this year.
Dr. A. M. Khalekuzzaman, the District Livestock Officer, stated that the estimated demand for sacrificial animals this year is approximately 162,000, while 170,000 animals have already been prepared. This means there is a surplus of around 9,500 animals available for Eid, ensuring that the market will comfortably meet buyers’ needs.
