After several days of adverse weather, life has returned to the country’s premier tourist destination, Cox’s Bazar, starting Saturday (May 31). From early morning, thousands of tourists flocked to the beach, drawn by the sunshine and clear skies. More than 20,000 visitors gathered around Laboni, Sugandha, and Kolatoli points throughout the day.

The improved weather brought smiles back to the faces of beach vendors and transport workers who had suffered losses over the previous two days. Photographers were busy capturing moments, beach bikes were racing along the shore, and children enjoyed horse rides once again. The shell and conch shops also buzzed with activity.

Ferdous, a photographer working at Laboni point, said, “There was no work for two days, but this morning I earned 500 taka thanks to the tourists.” Beach bike driver Abdul Aziz reported earning around 1,800 taka by midday. Horse rider Shahin Alam added, “I made about 300 taka between 8 and 11 in the morning.”

The Cox’s Bazar Weather Office announced that the No. 3 local warning signal was lifted following the improvement in weather conditions. Assistant Meteorologist Abdul Hannan stated that 34 millimeters of rain was recorded in the district over the past 24 hours (from Friday noon to Saturday noon) and expressed hope for continued improvement.

However, due to somewhat rough seas, lifeguard agencies are maintaining caution. Sea Safe lifeguard Mohammad Yusuf said, “The sea waves are still strong. We are monitoring the safety of swimmers and advising many not to enter the water.”

Meanwhile, after a long closure, shops selling Burmese products have reopened. Shopkeeper Md. Russel of Laboni Market said, “The shops were closed for two days, but with tourists returning today, we have reopened and are making some sales.”

Overall, the improving weather conditions have brought renewed vitality to Cox’s Bazar’s tourism areas.
