Hundreds of Rohingya refugees took part in peaceful rallies and gatherings across camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday (June 20), marking World Refugee Day with the slogan: “No More Refugee Life.”

Participants carried banners, festoons, and placards calling for an end to their protracted displacement and demanding a safe and dignified return to their homeland in Myanmar.

A significant gathering took place at the Kutupalong Registered Camp, where several Rohingya leaders addressed the crowd. Speakers made passionate appeals to the international community, urging action to help them transition from stateless refugees to recognized citizens in their own country.

“We don’t want to live as refugees anymore. We want our rights, safety, and a normal life back in Myanmar,” one community representative said during the event.

To ensure safety, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) implemented heightened security measures in and around the camps. “Peaceful gatherings were held in multiple camps on the occasion of World Refugee Day. We ensured full security throughout,” said APBn-14 Commanding Officer Mohammad Siraj Amin.

World Refugee Day is observed globally on June 20 each year, commemorating the resilience of forcibly displaced people and urging greater global responsibility in upholding their rights and dignity.
