With the passage of time and the rise of digitalization, people now enjoy many conveniences from the comfort of their homes. This wave of progress has also touched agriculture, bringing technological advancements to the fields. The familiar image of Bengali farmers ploughing fields with oxen and wooden ploughs is gradually disappearing as new machines emerge.
There was a time when it was unimaginable to cultivate land without oxen and ploughs. Today, that familiar bond between the farmer and the ox is rarely seen. A visit to various agricultural fields along Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive shows farmers now ploughing their lands using modern machinery.
With the changing times and continuous scientific advancements, tractors and power tillers have replaced the traditional plough and oxen. Farmers working along the Marine Drive reported that they can now access their fields at any convenient time of day with a tractor or power tiller, completing their ploughing and soil preparation in a short amount of time.
They noted that using these machines significantly reduces both the labour and time required to prepare land for cultivation, allowing them to manage their farming more efficiently and increase productivity.
