Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas marked the inauguration of National Fisheries Week 2025 today with colorful programs, including rallies, discussions, the release of a fish fry, and awards for successful fish farmers.

In Ukhiya, the upazila fisheries office organized the celebration, which featured a rally, an inaugural meeting, and the release of fish fry into ponds. Awards were also handed out to successful fish farmers. The discussion meeting, held at the Upazila Parishad hall, was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Kamrul Hossain Chowdhury, with participation from the former upazila chairman, fisheries officials, and other stakeholders.

Earlier, various species of fish fry were released into the Upazila Parishad pond to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, in Teknaf, a separate discussion and award-giving ceremony was held at the Upazila Parishad Public Hall Auditorium. The meeting, presided over by Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Delwar Hossain featured UNO Sheikh Ehsan Uddin as the chief guest. The event honored individuals with awards for their exceptional contributions to the field of ish farming.

Local officials, elected representatives, and members of the fisheries community attended both events, which emphasized the importance of safe fish farming practices and the role of fisheries resources in ensuring food security and promoting economic growth.
