The scenic Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar is now glowing with the vibrant hues of a wild flower that’s capturing the attention of travellers — the Flame Lily, locally known as Agunlata.

With its striking red-orange petals blazing against lush green foliage, the flower looks like a flame dancing in nature’s embrace.

Belonging to the vine family, the plant’s scientific name is Gloriosa superba. It typically blooms from the monsoon to the autumn season. The petals of the flower curl backwards, giving it a fiery, flame-like shape — hence the name Agunlata, meaning “fire vine.”

These flowers grow naturally along the hilly slopes and forested edges of Marine Drive.

Locals say the plant thrives without special care and lasts for a long time. In some cases, it is also valued for its medicinal properties.

This burst of wild colour along Marine Drive has added a new layer of charm to the travellers’ experience.

Many tourists are stopping by to admire the fiery blooms and capture photos of what appears to be a living masterpiece, painted by nature itself.
