Fishermen in Teknaf have netted a massive 166-kilogram silver croaker, commonly known as “Bhol” fish, from the Bay of Bengal. The giant catch was sold for Tk 180,000 shortly after it was brought ashore.

The fish was caught on Thursday while a fishing trawler was operating off the Baharchhara coast in Teknaf. Due to its enormous size, fishermen struggled to lift the fish onto the boat.

“We have never seen anything this big in our lives. It was extremely difficult to haul it aboard,” said Saiful Islam, one of the fishermen involved in the catch.

Although bidding initially reached Tk 200,000, local fish trader Karim Sowdagar purchased the prized catch for Tk 180,000.

Karim said the fish is being prepared for transport to Dhaka, where it is expected to arrive later tonight.

Local fishermen believe the deep-sea fish may have strayed from its natural habitat before landing in their nets.
