Calling for votes for the Dhaner Shish symbol, BNP standing committee member and Cox’s Bazar-1 parliamentary candidate Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday that the history of the BNP was inseparable from Bangladesh’s economic development and repeated struggles to restore democracy.

“BNP’s history is the history of this country’s economic progress, and the history of restoring democracy time and again,” Salahuddin said. “On the 12th, all of you should cast your votes for the Dhaner Shish without fear and remain at the polling centres until the results are announced. Insha’Allah, it will be a victory for the people, because a BNP government is a people’s government.”

He made the remarks at the final election rally held at around 5:30 pm at the bus terminal area of Chakaria municipality in Cox’s Bazar.

Salahuddin, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, said that many young people had sacrificed their lives for a discrimination-free state and democratic reforms.

“To fulfil that dream, we want to build a Bangladesh where no one will have to give their life again for voting rights and democracy,” he added.

The rally venue was packed with BNP leaders, activists, and supporters of the Dhaner Shish symbol from every union of Chakaria and Pekua upazilas. Organisers estimated that the gathering drew more than one lakh people.

Among those who addressed the rally were advocate Hasina Ahmed, wife of former lawmaker Salahuddin Ahmed; their son Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed; district BNP general secretary advocate Shamim Ara Swapna; Chakaria upazila BNP president Enamul Haque; Matamuhuri organisational upazila BNP president Jamil Ibrahim Chowdhury; Chakaria upazila BNP general secretary M Mobarak Ali; district Ulema Dal convener Ali Hasan Chowdhury; and other senior BNP leaders.
