The moon of Shawwal was not sighted in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday evening.
The information was confirmed following a meeting of the district moon sighting committee held at the information centre at Laboni Point of the Cox’s Bazar Sea Beach.
Chairman of the Cox’s Bazar moon sighting committee and deputy commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan said that committee members had been observing the sky since evening, but the moon was not visible.
“We could not sight the moon today. The committee will sit again at the scheduled time tomorrow. If the moon is sighted tomorrow, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the following day,” he said.
Residents are now awaiting the outcome of the next meeting for a final decision on the festival date.
