The Youth Cricket League 2025–26 has commenced in Cox’s Bazar under the Game Development Programme of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan inaugurated the league on Monday morning at the Cox’s Bazar Cricket Stadium.

Speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner said the present government is working with renewed commitment across all sectors and has placed special emphasis on the development of sports in Cox’s Bazar.

He expressed hope that young cricketers from the region will one day lead at the national level and help advance the country’s cricket.

Special guests at the event included Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sojib, former national cricketers Mehrab Hossain Opie, Hannan Sarkar, and Elias Sunny, District Sports Officer Alauddin, Ashraful Sujon, along with officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, players, and other stakeholders.

Following the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the participating players and encouraged them.

A total of 60 selected young cricketers from different regions of the country have been divided into four zones—East, West, North and Central—for the competition. The longer-version league will continue until April 14.

Hannan Sarkar, coach of the BCB age-group division and former national cricketer, said the league serves as a major platform to assess the skills of young players.

Those who do well will get national and international opportunities, and their strengths and weaknesses will be assessed. Players who need improvement will be supported through the Game Development department, he added.

He further added that such initiatives will help pave the way for developing the country’s future cricket leadership.

The team leading the points table will be crowned champions. Following the league phase, one-day format matches are scheduled to begin from April 15.
