The flow of tourists has eased somewhat in Cox’s Bazar, one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, following a series of holidays and festivals. During the Eid al-Fitr vacation, the beach witnessed a massive influx of visitors. The numbers rose again around Bangladesh’s Independence Day and the weekend.
However, a visit on Tuesday showed that tourist presence has declined compared to previous days. In particular, crowd levels at the Kolatoli, Sugandha, and Laboni points of the beach have decreased, bringing some relief to residents.
Tourism-related business owners said that this slowdown is temporary and unlikely to last long. They expressed hope that the beach will see another large influx of visitors during Pahela Baishakh and Valentine’s Day.
Mukim Khan, general secretary of the Cox’s Bazar Hotel-Resort Owners’ Association, said, “The tourist pressure has decreased for now. However, Cox’s Bazar will once again become vibrant with a large number of tourists during Pahela Baishakh and Valentine’s Day.”
Stakeholders believe that favorable weather and extended holidays could further boost tourist arrivals from across the country.
