Sudden gusty winds and rainfall from the early hours of dawn shook the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar, creating panic among residents.
The area reported strong winds, frequent lightning flashes, and thunder. The district also experienced a power outage during the weather disturbance, adding to public concern.
Locals said the sudden change in weather during the night startled many, with loud thunderclaps causing fear. The wind was strong enough to sway trees in several areas, disrupting daily life. The power outage further heightened residents’ anxiety.
Even around 7:30am, the sky over Cox’s Bazar remained heavily overcast, with light rain continuing, affecting the start of daily activities.
Assistant Meteorologist Abdul Hannan from the Meteorological Department said that, according to the long-term forecast for April 2026, the country is likely to experience normal rainfall. Cox’s Bazar is also expected to receive average precipitation during the month.
He added that the 30-year average rainfall for April in Cox’s Bazar is around 121 millimeters, with a relatively higher rainfall expected in the second week of the month.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious amid changing weather conditions.
