The “Notun Kuri Sports 2026” programme is scheduled to be inaugurated on May 2. The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the event from the Sylhet District Stadium and will also join virtually in activities linked to Cox’s Bazar.
A preparatory opinion exchange meeting was held with athletes and sports organisers at Cox’s Bazar to ensure smooth implementation of the program on Friday at the Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium, organised by the district administration and the district sports office, with support from the district sports association.
Officials said that children aged 12 to 14 will participate in eight disciplines: football, cricket, kabaddi, athletics, swimming, badminton, chess, and martial arts.
A total of 3,352 participants have registered in Cox’s Bazar district, including 2,606 boys and 746 girls. Based on participation numbers, the district ranks 14th nationwide.
Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police and representatives of the additional district administration, attended the meeting.
District sports officials said all preparations for the program in Cox’s Bazar have been completed and expressed hope of identifying promising athletes through the selection process.
Among the registered participants, competitors will be shortlisted for district-level selection, followed by divisional and national-level competitions across all eight sports disciplines.
