The monsoon season has revitalised the umbrella market in Cox’s Bazar, with consistent rainfall over the past few days leading to a significant increase in demand throughout the town.

A visit to key market areas, including Cox’s Bazar Boro Bazar and the Pourashava Market, shows a noticeable increase in shoppers browsing and purchasing umbrellas.

Shops are displaying a wide variety of colourful umbrellas that range in size, design, and price. Children’s umbrellas, featuring cartoon prints and bright colours, are particularly popular and have drawn significant attention from families.

Shah Alam, the owner of a local shop, stated that they had prepared well in advance for the rainy season. He noted that umbrellas are being sold at prices ranging from 150 to 700 taka, adding that sales have picked up as rainfall increases.

Customers are also showing enthusiasm for new purchases. One buyer said buying a new umbrella every monsoon has become a routine, and this year was no exception.

Vendors expect demand to grow further throughout the season. Many shop owners are increasing stock levels and introducing new designs to meet customer preferences.

Overall, while the rains continue to drench the coastal town, they are also bringing renewed momentum to the local umbrella trade, creating a lively scene for both buyers and sellers.
