Known for the world’s longest natural sea beach, Cox’s Bazar attracts tourists throughout the year. However, in recent years, the rapid growth of high-rise buildings, hotels, and resorts across the tourism zones has reduced the city’s open green spaces.

Amid this expanding concrete landscape, Gonopurt Udyan (PW Park) has emerged as a peaceful retreat for both visitors and local residents. Located in the Sugandha area of the hotel-motel zone, the park is increasingly becoming a symbol of relaxation.

Situated within the Kolatoli zone, the park has already attracted tourists. Visitors coming to the beach often step away from the crowds to enjoy a quieter environment here. The park features open green fields, children’s rides, and well-designed walkways for visitors.

It has also become a popular recreational spot for local people. As evening approaches, the number of visitors gradually increases. Families gather here after a busy day or during holidays, turning the park into a lively meeting place filled with children’s laughter and adult leisure.

High-rise structures dominate the area, according to local journalist Afzara Riya, making the park a rare space for peace. She stressed the importance of proper maintenance to preserve its appeal.

Residents believe that with improved facilities, the park could become an even more attractive destination for tourists. They noted that adding modern recreational features would further enhance its appeal.

Abhijit Chowdhury, the Executive Engineer of the Cox’s Bazar Public Works Department, stated that the park’s development took into account both tourists and locals. He added that efforts are ongoing to maintain the area properly, and more modern facilities, such as playgrounds, fitness areas, and picnic spots, could be introduced through future government or private initiatives.

Overall, Gonopurt Udyan stands as a refreshing green space amid the busy urban setting, offering visitors a place to relax, unwind, and find calm.
