State Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said that ongoing global conflicts are increasingly overshadowing the Rohingya crisis in the international arena.

She also said that the Rohingya issue is not only a concern for Bangladesh but also a significant humanitarian crisis for the world.

She made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with law enforcement agencies, NGOs, and international NGO officials at the office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

The minister said the Rohingya crisis has created a major burden on Bangladesh’s economy and population. Despite this, Bangladesh continues to provide shelter on humanitarian grounds.

She also referenced past repatriation efforts, noting that the administrations of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia successfully facilitated the return of Rohingyas.

Regarding the current situation, she said the internal condition in Myanmar remains extremely unstable.

She added that the present government is committed to ensuring dignity, safety, and rights for the Rohingyas so they can return and live peacefully in their homeland.

She further said that Bangladesh is maintaining communication with the Myanmar government, the Arakan Army, and other relevant stakeholders.

Discussions are also ongoing with China, India, ASEAN countries, the Muslim world, and Western nations to find a coordinated solution.

The deputy minister emphasized the need to ensure education, healthcare, food, shelter, and security for Rohingya refugees before repatriation.

She expressed concern that recent reductions in international funding have disrupted education programs, created food shortages, and weakened shelter conditions.

Earlier that morning, the minister-led five-member delegation arrived in Cox’s Bazar and visited several Rohingya camps in Ukhiya.

The delegation also included senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Myanmar Wing.

Officials from RRRC, along with representatives from the administration, NGOs, and international NGOs, were present at the meeting.
