The famous buffalo curd of Ilishia is witnessing brisk sales every morning at Baharchara market in Cox’s Bazar.
Carrying on a long-standing tradition, the curd has become one of the most popular local delicacies in the district, with its demand steadily increasing among both local residents and tourists.
Rows of earthen pots filled with thick, creamy, and flavourful buffalo curd are on display across the market from early morning.
Many tourists buy the curd for their families, while others take it as gifts for relatives and friends. Buyers said the curd has earned a special reputation for its rich taste and quality.
Vendor Jasim said they collected the curd very early in the morning from Chakaria, Badarkhali, and surrounding areas, then brought it to Baharchhara Market for sale.
He said the curd is in high demand, and most of the stock sells out by noon. At times, meeting customers’ demands becomes difficult.
He added that each earthen pot is priced between Tk 250 and Tk 300, depending on its size. Due to its natural preparation process and unique taste, the buffalo curd has maintained its popularity and consumers’ trust over the years.
Locals said Ilishia’s buffalo curd has now become a unique part of Cox’s Bazar’s food culture and heritage.
