The government has upgraded the bed capacity of two upazila health complexes in Cox’s Bazar district, a move expected to significantly improve healthcare services in the region.
Chakaria Upazila Health Complex has been upgraded from 50 beds to 100 beds, while Pekua Upazila Health Complex has been increased from 31 beds to 50 beds.
The development was confirmed in a letter signed by Deputy Secretary Shukla Sarker of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday (May 12). Officials said the expansion of bed capacity will enhance healthcare delivery in both upazilas, allowing patients to receive better services than before.
Chakaria Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Zainul Abedin said the Ministry of Finance has already issued the notification upgrading Chakaria Upazila Health Complex to 100 beds. The proposal will now be sent to the Ministry of Health for further implementation.
He added that the full implementation process may take around one month, after which service delivery is expected to improve significantly for patients.
Similarly, the upgrade of Pekua Upazila Health Complex to 50 beds is also expected to strengthen its healthcare capacity and expand treatment facilities for residents.
Sources indicate that Home Affairs Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed has facilitated the expansion of both health complexes.
