Despite the monsoon season, strong sunshine over the past two days has drawn large numbers of tourists to Cox’s Bazar sea beach for the weekly holiday, with lifeguards urging tourists to bathe only in designated safe zones.
Red-and-yellow flags have been hoisted along the beach, indicating areas where bathing is considered safe under current sea conditions.
Most visitors were seen entering the water at the Kolatoli, Laboni and Sugandha beach points, where lifeguards are on duty.
Sea Safe Lifeguard authorities have requested tourists to follow safety instructions, saying designated bathing areas have been clearly marked and are covered by lifeguard services.
Red-and-yellow flags or red flags indicate the boundaries of these zones.
They warned that entering the sea outside the designated areas could be dangerous.
Sea Safe supervisor and senior lifeguard Mohammad Osman Gani said the beach remained generally safe for bathing but that several underwater holes and channels had formed in some sections.
‘Tourists should bathe only within the designated areas at the three points where lifeguards are stationed,’ he said.
According to the tidal forecast for Friday, low tide is expected at 6:11pm, while the next high tide is forecast to begin around midnight.
Authorities also warned that ignoring safety flags or lifeguards’ instructions could result in serious accidents and urged tourists to exercise caution while enjoying the beach.
