On October 28 evening, the Environment Advisor made this statement while serving as the Chief Guest at the European Union’s COP29 reception in Gulshan, Dhaka. The European Union’s COP29 reception aimed to foster collaboration between nations and stakeholders before the COP29 conference.
Advisor Rizwana highlighted the disproportionate climate challenges faced by vulnerable nations like Bangladesh.
Despite contributing minimally to global emissions, Bangladesh bears one of the highest burdens of climate impacts. She urged that we need equitable solutions that recognize the realities of nations on the frontlines of climate change.
The global community must match Bangladesh’s resilience with robust, sustainable support. She stated that her government has increased youth engagement in climate action.
The European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, spoke at the event, commending Bangladesh’s proactive role in environmental conservation and climate resilience and its participation in the Global Climate Resilience Network.
Ambassadors of European countries, the Environment Secretary, international delegates, government representatives, environmental stakeholders, and youth climate activists were present at the occasion.
