Abdur Rahman, a journalist working in Cox’s Bazar’s last frontier, Teknaf, has spent 12 years chronicling the joys and struggles of border life.

A well-known name in the region, Rahman currently contributes to international media outlet Radio Free Asia’s partner platform BenarNews, as well as leading Bangladeshi dailies Samakal and Bangla Tribune.

Rahman gained international recognition when the “Memories of Home” series, published on BenarNews on August 24, 2022, won the prestigious Telly Award in the United States.

Moreover, his reporting earned him the Best Reporter Award from Samakal in 2018 and accolades from the Bangla Tribune. Over the years, he has collaborated with international platforms such as DW and BBC Radio and worked freelance.

In an interview with Cox’s Bazar Life, Rahman highlighted the potential of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border region.

“Teknaf has immense prospects in tourism and cross-border trade, but the presence of the world’s largest refugee camp, housing Rohingyas who fled genocide in Myanmar, is a significant challenge. To unlock Teknaf’s full potential and showcase it to the world, it is imperative to ensure the repatriation of Rohingyas with the support of the global community,” he added.

He also said that his work aims to bring the impacts of climate change on the Naf River and the coastal regions of Teknaf into the global spotlight.

“I also strive to draw attention to the plight of Rohingya women and children living in refugee camps and highlight the local security and environmental challenges caused by the Rohingya crisis. Through my reporting, I hope to inform and engage the world on these critical issues,” he added.
