Over 150 local and international NGOs implementing projects for both the Rohingya refugees and the host communities in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, have come under scrutiny for failing to adhere to administrative guidelines.

In a coordination meeting organized by the Ukhiya Upazila Administration on Tuesday, January 7, it was revealed that representatives from only 30 to 35 NGOs attended, raising concerns about accountability.

Presiding over the meeting, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrul Hossain Chowdhury emphasized the need for compliance, stating, “Providing you with a conducive working environment is our responsibility, but all projects must operate within the framework of administrative directives.” He warned of strict action against NGOs failing to comply.

Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, the former Upazila Chairman and Ukhiya Upazila BNP Convener, emphasized allocating 25% of all project allocations to the host community. He asserted that, given their direct impact, we should not overlook the host communities in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

Government officials, journalists, NGO representatives, and other stakeholders attended the meeting to address discrepancies and improve project implementation for both the refugees and the host communities.
