Shaheda Akter Ripa, a Bangladesh national women’s football team member, has been honored with the Ekushey Padak 2025. Following this prestigious recognition, she dedicated the award to the people of her beloved hometown, Cox’s Bazar. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ripa wrote, “Alhamdulillah. The Ekushey Padak 2025 is the greatest achievement of my life. I dedicate this honor to the people of Cox’s Bazar.”
This year, 14 distinguished individuals and the Bangladesh national women’s football team have been awarded the Ekushey Padak for their significant contributions in various fields. Recognizing the women’s football team in the sports category marks a new milestone for women’s athletics in Bangladesh.
The Ekushey Padak was awarded in science and technology to Mehedi Hasan Khan, the creator of the Avro Keyboard, and Rifat Nabi, MD. Tanbin Islam Siam, and Shabab Mustafa.
The honor was posthumously awarded to poet Helal Hafiz and novelist Shahidul Zahir in language and literature. Mahmudur Rahman was recognized for journalism and human rights, while Dr. Shahidul Alam was honored for his contributions to culture and education.
The awards ceremony occurred on February 20 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor, handed the awards to the recipients.
Shaheda Akter Ripa’s achievement is a moment of pride for Cox’s Bazar and the entire nation. Her recognition is expected to inspire a new generation of female athletes and promote women’s participation in sports across Bangladesh.
