The Cox’s Bazar Community Alliance has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Nobel Laureate and Chief Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on his appointment as the next Chair of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation).
In a press statement, the organization expressed optimism that Dr. Yunus’ leadership would open new horizons for Bangladesh and the broader Bay of Bengal region.
The alliance congratulated BIMSTEC’s new leadership and stated, “Dr. Yunus’ commitment to justice and innovation will play a crucial role in the prosperity of Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal region. We believe that under his historic leadership, BIMSTEC will evolve into a symbol of peace, cooperation, and shared prosperity.”
They further emphasized that equitable utilization of maritime resources, shipping lanes, and trade corridors would be ensured under his stewardship. “Dr. Yunus’ strategic vision will enhance Bangladesh’s position in regional and global platforms through initiatives such as maritime economy development, the Matarbari deep-sea port, and the Blue Economy.”
Founded in 1997, BIMSTEC plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth, technological cooperation, and security among its member states—Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Thailand. Given the geopolitical and economic significance of the Bay of Bengal region, the alliance sees Dr. Yunus’ leadership as a transformative moment, bringing Bangladesh to the forefront of BIMSTEC’s policy-making for the first time.
