As summer intensifies, the demand for seasonal fruits, particularly watermelon, is soaring in Cox’s Bazar.

With the rising demand, watermelon prices have also increased compared to last week. Vendors report a price hike of TK5 to TK10 per kilogram.

A visit to various floating watermelon markets in Cox’s Bazar town reveals a growing crowd of eager buyers. According to sellers, the high demand ensures daily sales, with prices ranging between TK40 and TK45 per kilogram.

Larger watermelons, weighing around five kilograms, are being sold for approximately TK200 each.

One vendor shared, “The demand for watermelon has surged in the past two to three days due to the heat. However, the price hasn’t increased significantly.” He also explained that watermelons cannot be stored for long due to the hot weather, compelling sellers to clear out their stock quickly.

Another seller mentioned that the watermelons sold in Cox’s Bazar are sourced from the region’s hilly areas and plains, supplying various markets across the town.
