486 newly hatched turtles, born in a hatchery near the Shah Porir Island coastal area in Teknaf, have been released into the Naf River. Unlike previous releases into the sea, this batch was introduced to the river.

The hatchlings were released on Thursday at around 4:30 PM at the jetty area of Shah Porir Island Bazarpara in Sabrang Union, Teknaf Upazila. Abdul Qayum, Manager of Natural Resource Management and Climate Change at Nature Conservation Management (NECOM), confirmed this information.

According to him, conservationists had collected around 8,500 turtle eggs from the Shah Porir Island coastal area this season. More than 3,000 hatchlings have already been released in phases into the sea and the Naf River. On Tuesday, 111 hatchlings were released into the saline waters of the Shah Porir Island coast, while Thursday’s release focused on the Naf River.

Efforts like these contribute significantly to marine biodiversity conservation, ensuring a safer environment for endangered turtle species.
