Piyal Kanti Shil, a second-year sociology student at Chattogram College, was born and raised in Moheshkhali but now divides his time between Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram for work and studies. Currently the program coordinator for “Teaching Peace Through Music” under YASID and Peace Through Music International, Piyal’s journey began as a volunteer in this inspiring initiative.
“My love for music started early, but my journey transformed when I learned to play the pennywhistle. This simple instrument took me to a new world, and I realized that music isn’t just for listening—it can truly touch hearts,” he told *Cox’s Bazar Life*. What began as a hobby quickly became a meaningful way to express himself, building his confidence and resilience.
In 2020, Piyal joined YASID as a volunteer, using music to support war-affected, trauma-impacted, and marginalized children—from the Rohingya refugee camps to local orphanages and climate-displaced communities. These children find peace through music, express themselves, and steer toward positive futures.
“We’re not just teaching them music; we’re helping them develop confidence and emotional strength,” Piyal explained. His teams of volunteers, including local youth and students from the Asian University for Women, work to instill values of peace and social responsibility.
“My journey hasn’t just changed my life; it’s creating a new rhythm for many young lives. I believe music has the power to inspire lasting change,” he concluded.
