A new milestone has been added to the island’s tourism industry in the upazila of Kutubdia, with the opening of the scenic Boroghop Sea Beach to visitors, following the formal inauguration of the Kutubdia Lighthouse Sea Beach on December 12 last year.
Surrounded by a serene natural setting, Boroghop Sea Beach has now been developed with modern facilities and recreational attractions to enhance its appeal. The tourism centre was formally inaugurated on Thursday under the initiative of the Kutubdia Boroghop Tourism Family.
In the presence of local administration officials and other dignitaries, Local Union Parishad chairman ANM Shahid Uddin Choton formally opened the site with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
According to local residents and visitors, Boroghop Beach is known for its calm atmosphere and breathtaking sunset views. The beach is now more accessible and tourist-friendly thanks to the addition of contemporary amenities.
To improve visitors’ experience, modern umbrellas and benches have been installed along the shoreline, allowing tourists to enjoy the sea waves comfortably.
Tourist police and trained lifeguard teams will remain deployed to ensure visitors’ safety. Solar-powered lights illuminate the entire area, enabling safe movement during the evening hours.
To preserve the natural beauty of the beach, several thousand new tamarisk trees have been planted across the area. Kutubdia Island is already known for its historic lighthouse, salt cultivation, and wind power projects. Stakeholders believe the modernisation of Boroghop Beach will have a positive impact on the island’s local economy.
Local business owners said that if transport connectivity improves further, the tranquil and pristine beach could emerge as a major tourist destination and a viable alternative to Cox’s Bazar.
Following the inauguration, the upazila administration urged visitors to remain mindful of environmental protection, particularly by avoiding plastic use on the beach and maintaining ecological balance.
