The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast overall normal rainfall across the country in April, including in Cox’s Bazar.
According to the 30-year average, Cox’s Bazar receives around 121 millimeters of rainfall in April. Rainfall is likely to be higher than in the first week of the month.
Regarding cyclones, the forecast noted that April–May and October–November are considered cyclone seasons.
It also said that a low-pressure system may form in the final week of April and intensify into a cyclone if favorable conditions prevail.
However, no cyclone threat is expected during the first three weeks of the month.
The department also warned about seasonal thunderstorms. Nor’westers, locally known as Kalbaishakhi, are common during the summer months from March to May, particularly in northern regions.
Although such storms are relatively less frequent in Cox’s Bazar, two incidents of thunderstorms with lightning have already been recorded.
People, especially those working in open areas, have been advised to remain cautious when dark clouds appear due to the risk of lightning.
April is one of the hottest months in the country, and heatwaves are also likely. The forecast suggests that a heatwave may begin after the second week, potentially affecting public health and the power sector.
Temperature and humidity are expected to follow normal patterns. Based on long-term averages, the mean temperature in April stands at around 32.2 degrees Celsius.
However, temperatures may occasionally rise to 36 degrees Celsius or higher, particularly in the latter half of the month.
Even when temperatures remain between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, high humidity levels of 65%–70% or more may cause uncomfortable conditions.
Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, revealed the information.
