Bangladesh sought assistance from the USA regarding the resolve of the Rohingya crisis emphasizing Bangladesh’s focus on addressing the root causes of the crisis, Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin told the journalists after a meeting with a visiting US delegation on Sunday. He also said that the US delegation praised Dhaka’s efforts in seeking a resolution. When asked if any issue related to India was discussed, the Foreign Secretary clarified that Bangladesh and India address their concerns through bilateral platforms. The Bangladesh side drew the attention of the Americans regarding the recent developments. Over 8,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh recently. Bangladesh is already hosting over 1.2 million Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char. A six-member interagency US delegation, led by Brent Neiman, assistant secretary for international finance at the US Department of Treasury, along with Donald Lu, assistant secretary at the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, met the foreign secretary at Padma and discussed issues of mutual interest. The US delegation also included Assistant US Trade Representative Brandon Lynch and Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID Anjali Kaur.
