Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has provided free medical services and distributed medicines among underprivileged people in the Baishfari border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban. Financial assistance was also extended to local religious and educational institutions, while students received gift items.

The program was conducted on Thursday (April 16) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Baishfari Government Primary School in Ghumdhum Union, under the initiative of the Baishfari BOP of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB).

According to BGB sources, a total of 279 underprivileged and marginalised people from the border area received free medical services and necessary medicines as part of the initiative. Sewing machines were also distributed among poor families to help improve their livelihoods. In addition, financial support was provided to local religious and educational institutions, and various gifts were distributed among students of madrasas and schools.

Lieutenant Colonel S M Khairul Alam, commanding officer of Cox’s Bazar Battalion, attended the event as the chief guest.

He said that in line with the BGB director general’s vision of being a “symbol of security and trust at the border”, the force is working not only on border protection and preventing drug trafficking and smuggling but also on the socio-economic development of border communities. He expressed hope that such humanitarian initiatives would continue in the future.

BGB said it remains committed to ensuring border security while fulfilling its humanitarian responsibilities for the welfare of the people.
