Md. Elias Mia, Chief Executive of the Center for Environment, Human Rights and Development Forum (CEHRDF) and a noted human rights activist, has been selected to attend the Second United Nations World Social Summit 2025, organized by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
According to an official confirmation from the UN Secretariat, he will participate as a representative of Bangladesh’s civil society.
The summit will take place from November 4–6, 2025, at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) in Doha, with pre-summit activities scheduled for November 3. The event marks the 30th anniversary of the first World Social Summit, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.
The main objective of this year’s summit is to reaffirm the global commitment to social development by addressing poverty eradication, creating decent employment, and promoting social inclusion to build a just and equitable society. The conference will also discuss inequality, technological shifts, and emerging social challenges worldwide.
World leaders, heads of governments, UN agencies, international organizations, business leaders, civil society representatives, academics, and youth delegates are expected to attend the summit, alongside UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Md. Elias Mia expressed his excitement about his participation.,
“It is an honor to represent the youth leadership of Bangladesh on such a global platform.”m. I intend to highlight the realities of our marginalized communities, the impacts of climate change, and ongoing human rights challenges.”
In a statement, CEHRDF said,
“Md. Elias Mia’s participation as a young delegate from Bangladesh marks not only a milestone for our organization but also for the country’s broader civil society, environmental, and human rights movements.”
According to the United Nations, the Doha Summit aims to shape a renewed global agenda for social justice, trust-building, and human-centered policymaking.
