The sixth monthly meeting of the Upazila Steering Committee on Women, Peace, and Security was held in Cox’s Bazar Sadar. Participants discussed practical steps to localize the National Action Plan (NAP) and strengthen women’s security, empowerment, and participation in peacebuilding.
The meeting occurred yesterday afternoon at the BADC conference hall in Cox’s Bazar and was chaired by Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mohammad Ismail. Organized under the project “Empowering Bangladeshi Women to Contribute to Sustainable Peace,” the session emphasized the importance of consistent monthly planning to effectively implement the four key pillars of the national Women, Peace, and Security agenda: Participation, Prevention, Protection, and Recovery.
Key issues addressed in the meeting included enhancing women’s participation in peace processes, combating child marriage and sexual harassment, raising public awareness against drug abuse, and ensuring accessible services for marginalized women through the activation of women and child help desks in police stations.
Decisions were also made to monitor the effectiveness of sexual harassment prevention committees in local schools and madrasas, and plans were made to conduct awareness activities within educational institutions.
Steering Committee Coordinator and Project Manager, Md, moderated the meeting. Shafiqul Islam Farazi. Notable speakers included SZM Abu Raihan from Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) and committee members Subrata Dutta, Kalim Ullah, Mainuddin Hasan Shahed, Papia Rani Dey, Ma Tin Tin, Suraiya Akter, and Humaira Begum.
