Victory Day programmes began in the tourist district of Cox’s Bazar with a solemn tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Great Liberation War, marked by a 31-gun salute.
At around 6:30 am on Monday (December 16), Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan was the first to pay homage on behalf of the district administration by placing a floral wreath at the city’s Central Shaheed Minar.
Speaking to journalists after the tribute, the deputy commissioner said, “To celebrate Victory Day in a festive atmosphere, the district administration has undertaken a series of day-long programmes. Security has been strengthened to ensure that the celebrations remain safe and uninterrupted for the general public as well as visiting tourists.”
Following the district administration, floral wreaths were also laid at the Shaheed Minar by the Cox’s Bazar District Police, Tourist Police, Press Club, district BNP, Cox’s Bazar Life Team, and various political and social organizations.
As part of the Victory Day programmes organized by the district administration, the national flag was hoisted and the national anthem performed at Bir Sreshtho Ruhul Amin Stadium.
The programme also featured student assemblies, parades, and performances, with participation from students from various educational institutions.
Other activities included a reception for valiant freedom fighters at the BIAM Regional Centre, friendly afternoon football and cricket matches at Bir Sreshtho Ruhul Amin Stadium, and surfing and jet-ski demonstrations at Laboni Point on the beach.
In the evening, a cultural programme will be held at Laboni Point, alongside the formal inauguration of a grand three-day Victory Fair.
Arrangements have also been made to screen Liberation War–based films in open spaces at night, adding further depth to the commemorative celebrations.
