After 17 years, Cox’s Bazar Medical College has finally received approval for a 500-bed hospital—an announcement that sparked jubilant celebrations among students on campus. They organized a joyous rally followed by sharing sweets to mark the milestone.
The rally began at noon on Wednesday (March 21) from the college premises and ended at the main gate. Students exchanged sweets and shared their excitement.
Asiful Haque, a student and organizer of the Medical College Hospital Implementation Committee, said, “We have been demanding this hospital for years. Without it, we had to travel about 8 kilometers to the Cox’s Bazar District Hospital for practical classes. With limited buses, we often had to travel standing. Once the hospital is built, this struggle will end. We’re thankful to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for this approval.”
Another student, Jinnatun Nahar, added, “Once the hospital is implemented, we’ll finally have access to treatment for complex conditions like kidney dialysis, ICU, CCU, and more. This won’t just ease our burden but also benefit the local community.”
Mizanur Rahman, a Cox’s Bazar resident and medical student, highlighted the broader impact: “With 2.9 million local residents, over 1.2 million Rohingyas, and a steady influx of tourists, this 500-bed hospital is a vital need. Now, we won’t have to go to the district hospital for practical classes. As both a student and a local, I am truly happy.”
Later, students shared their joy with college faculty, offering floral greetings to Principal Professor Dr. Sohel Baks, who joined in the celebrations by offering sweets to the students.
