The Online Bus Terminal (OBT) service, introduced in Cox’s Bazar, has reached a significant milestone, issuing over 10,000 permits in just 11 months. The digital platform, launched by the district police, has been hailed as a groundbreaking success in ensuring smoother, safer, and more organized travel for both tourists and locals.

According to an official statement, the OBT service—initiated on World Tourism Day, September 27 last year—allows tourist buses to obtain entry permits online before entering the city. As a result, traffic congestion and disorder in the town have been significantly reduced, with buses parking only at designated spots and passengers reaching their destinations more comfortably.

Through the website www.obtbd.com, applicants can fill in the required details and receive approval within one to two minutes via mobile phone. The approval message includes a permit number and designated parking location. If an application is denied, the reason is also provided instantly.

Extra Superintendent of Police (ASP) and district police spokesperson Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury said:
“OBT is not just an online service—it is an effective tool to ensure tourists’ safety and hassle-free travel. Previously, buses without permission would drop passengers far from the city, causing time loss and financial strain. Now, with approved entry, that suffering is gone.”

District Police Superintendent Md Saifuddin Shahin added:
“The OBT was introduced to improve the standards of this tourist city and to ensure safe, orderly travel for visitors. It has now become a symbol of trust for both tourists and transport operators.”

Within less than a year, the service has processed over 10,000 applications from universities, medical colleges, corporate groups, educational institutions, and travel agencies nationwide.
