Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital held a comprehensive clean-up and mosquito-control campaign on Saturday as part of a government initiative to prevent the spread of dengue and chikungunya and raise public awareness.
The campaign began at around 9:00am and was formally inaugurated by Cox’s Bazar-1 lawmaker Lutfur Rahman Kajal.
Before the clean-up drive, Kajal inspected the hospital’s overall healthcare activities and management. He spoke with doctors on duty, patients, and their attendants to learn about the quality of services.
After the inspection, he joined hospital authorities and staff in the clean-up campaign.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kajal stressed the importance of keeping the hospital, a key public healthcare facility, clean and free from pollution.
He said maintaining major healthcare facilities in hygienic, safe condition was a collective responsibility.
He said weekly clean-up and mosquito-control drives were being conducted at different government institutions in Cox’s Bazar every Saturday as part of the government’s initiative.
He also urged citizens to remain aware and take responsibility for cleanliness in their respective areas, saying institutional initiatives alone were not enough.
On the development of Cox’s Bazar municipality, Kajal said various plans and initiatives were underway to turn the entire municipality into a clean, pollution-free city within the next five months.
Hospital superintendent Dr Mongtin Nyo and other senior officials were present at the programme.
Following the inauguration, Kajal joined hospital officials and employees in the clean-up and dengue-prevention awareness activities.
