A visually impressive Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre has been constructed within the premises of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, reflecting a harmonious blend of modern architectural design and Islamic values.
Built under the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ initiative, the mosque is part of the government’s nationwide Model Mosque Project. Combining contemporary aesthetics with spiritual significance, the structure stands as a prominent religious landmark in the area.
Like similar facilities established across the country, the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila Model Mosque offers separate prayer arrangements for women, designated ablution areas, an imam training room, an Islamic library, and a hifz section for Qur’an memorisation. The mosque can accommodate several hundred worshippers at a time.
Local public representatives and religious leaders said the mosque is not merely a place of prayer but also a centre for Islamic learning and social harmony. Regular Qur’an lessons, dawah activities, and religious seminars are expected to be organised at the venue.
Every day, hundreds of worshippers gather at the mosque to offer prayers, while on Fridays, the congregation swells significantly, drawing large numbers of devotees.
Under the government’s Model Mosque Project, modern mosques are being constructed in phases in every district and upazila across Bangladesh, aiming to strengthen religious values and promote awareness against extremism and militancy.
