A low-pressure system has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, with a possibility of intensification. Consequently, local sea ports have been instructed to display Signal No. 3. On Tuesday afternoon (May 27), the Meteorological Department warned that this system may bring gusty or stormy winds over the northern Bay of Bengal, coastal areas of Bangladesh, and sea ports.
Warning signals are currently active at the sea ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra. Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to stay close to the coast and avoid venturing into deep sea until further notice.
These facts were confirmed by Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at Cox’s Bazar Weather Office.
Despite these warnings, large numbers of tourists have been seen visiting Cox’s Bazar beach. Many are entering the water for bathing. Red flags, indicating danger, have been hoisted on the beach. Lifeguards are using microphones and whistles to warn tourists and are escorting them out of the water.
Lifeguards caution that even knee-deep water in such weather conditions can pose serious risks. They urge everyone to remain vigilant and stay away from the sea.
Authorities repeatedly request the public to take these warnings seriously and avoid risking their own and others’ lives.
