With the theme “No to Plastic Pollution—It’s Time for Change”, World Environment Day 2025 was celebrated in Cox’s Bazar through a discussion session and prize distribution ceremony.

The event, held on Wednesday morning at the District Commissioner’s conference room, was jointly organized by the Cox’s Bazar District Administration and the Department of Environment.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin attended as the chief guest. In his speech, he emphasized the serious threat that plastic waste poses to biodiversity and human health. “Plastic pollution must be stopped. It’s crucial that we raise public awareness and encourage tree plantation to protect the environment,” he said.

He also issued a strong warning that any destruction of biodiversity or environmental damage in the district’s Ecologically Critical Areas (ECAs) will result in strict legal action.

Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sajib, the event featured speeches by Additional Superintendent of Police Nazmus Sakib Khan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammadul Haque, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Abdul Latif Jony, BAPA District President H.M. Ershad, and others.

Speakers expressed hope that to ensure sustainable development, everyone will adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and stop using single-use plastics.

Officials from various government departments, environmental activists, teachers, and students attended the event.

At the end of the session, the Deputy Commissioner distributed tree saplings among students. Prizes were also awarded to 15 winners of a painting competition held in observance of the day.
