A thought-provoking discussion titled “Rohingya Crisis and Socioeconomic Change: Realities and Future” was held at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad Conference Hall on Saturday, December 7. The Jatiya Nagorik Committee under Chattogram Rising organized the session on the region’s geopolitical challenges and future policy development.
Jatiya Nagorik Committee Teknaf organizer Sayem Sikder moderated the event. Delivering the keynote address, central Jatiya Nagorik Committee member S.M. Suza Uddin emphasized the need for inclusive policy-making:
“We envision a political system where workers, laborers, and salt farmers can voice their concerns and secure their rights independently. Teknaf isn’t just a border area; it’s a crucial Exclusive Economic Zone. The local people must have a say in shaping its policies,” he remarked.
Professor Muhammad Omar Faruk, Jatiya Nagorik Committee’s Cox’s Bazar district organizer, highlighted Teknaf’s strategic importance in South and Southeast Asian geopolitics and humanitarian policy-making.
Aminullah Saif, the headmaster of Sabrang Coastal Red Crescent High School, led the discussion.
