Construction and repair work on vulnerable embankments in Kutubdia is set to begin before the upcoming monsoon season, following directives from Member of Parliament Almgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid.

In line with the directive, Executive Engineer Nurul Islam of the Bangladesh Water Development Board in Cox’s Bazar inspected several vulnerable embankment areas on Monday.

The inspection covered North Dhurung, South Dhurung, Kaiyarbil, and Ali Akbar Deil unions, where sections of the embankment have been identified as high-risk.

According to local representatives, parts of the embankment in the Batiarghat area of South Dhurung are in critical condition. Without urgent repair before the monsoon, there is a risk that seawater could inundate croplands and residential areas.

Executive Engineer Nurul Islam said that, following the MP’s instructions, authorities have initiated emergency repairs before the rainy season. Measurements of the vulnerable sections will be completed and submitted to higher authorities for approval. He expressed hope that the repair work would begin soon.

Local union representatives were also present during the inspection, including chairpersons from North Dhurung and acting leadership from Ali Akbar Deil union.
